A very thought provoking article on an area where not much literature or discourses exist. Considering the kind of role India poised to play in world politicts in the near future , a global strategic thinking in India is the need of the hour. To rxpect beureucrats sitting in MEA or MoD to do all the IR and strategic research all by themselves to advise the govt on policy matters is wishful. Independent Think Tanks with their own ares of specialisations and strength is essential. But funding is a major problem for the non-Govt independent think tanks . MoD and MEA must look into this area and make budget provisions to enable credible research work through independent think tanks . Strategic Research Projects in line with the govt sponsored and funded purec Science and Social Science projects by the Ministory o Science & Technology and Ministry of Education must be sponsored and funded by MEA and MoD to support the research activities of credible independent think tanks in India . Good article by Mr Athreya . Hope this article provokes some thought process in the corridors of MEA and MoD .
