Air Marshal Pradeep Padmakar Bapat, PVSM, VSM was commissioned in the Indian Air Force in the Administrative Branch on 28 May 1983. A Postgraduate in Zoology from Vikram University Ujjain, he was commissioned as a fighter controller and worked for initial ten years in the Fighter Controller stream and then took to administrative stream taking over the assignments of Senior Administrative officer and Chief Administrative Officer in subsequent tenures.
He has held important field appointments which includes Chief Administrative Officer of an Equipment Depot, Dy Chief Administrative Officer of a Mirage Fighter base and Chief Administrative Officer of a Sukhoi 30 base. He was also a member of IAF team which participated in Joint exercise withSouth African Air Force named Golden Eagle at Hoiedspruits (होइ पृइस) in South Africa. He has also held important staff appointments which included Camp Commandant at Air HQ. He was the Command Works Officer of Southwestern Air Command before being promoted as an Air Commodore to take over the reins of Air Force Station Avadi, Chennai on 01 Dec 2011 as Air Officer Commanding 23 Equipment Depot, the mother depot for clothing, tentage and Stock Holding Depot for small arms and ammunition etc. He relinquished his appointment as Air Officer Commanding 23 ED, AF to take over as Chief Personnel Staff Officer at HQ Central Air Command on Jan 14. After a short tenure at Central Air Command, the Air Officer was posted to Air HQ to assume the appointment of Principal Director, Air Force Works on Aug 14. On promotion as Air Vice Marshal, he assumed the appointment of Asst Chief of Air Staff (AF Works) wef 01 Aug 2015. The Air Officer assumed the appointment of Director General (Woks & Ceremonial) on being promoted to the rank of Air Marshal on 01 Aug 17.
3. On 01 Nov 18, the Air Marshal assumed the appointment of Air Officer in charge administration. The Air Officer is a recipient of “Vishisht Seva Medal” in 2014 for his distinguished service. The Air Marshal retired from active Service after three and a half decades of yeoman service to the organisation on 31 Dec 2019 and was also conferred with “Param Vishisht Seva Medal” on 26 Jan 2020 for his stupendous service post retirement.
